We are Praceira
Chestnuts from Ourense, tree to table with no one in between.

A small company from Ourense working with families who have looked after century-old chestnut trees for generations. We buy the harvest directly, at a price agreed before the first chestnut falls, and we sell it ourselves: no wholesale markets, no warehouses in between, no post-harvest treatments.
We pick by hand every morning, grade them one by one, cure them for a few days so they gain sweetness, and ship them in ventilated boxes. What reaches you is what people eat in homes with chestnut trees, with one difference: now it has a name. Praceira, after the women who bring their own harvest to the food markets of Galicia.

Three districts, three kinds of chestnut
We work with groves in three areas of Ourense with different altitudes and varieties. That is why we have chestnuts from late September through to January.
Ribeira Sacra
Longal · Amarelante · slate slopes above the Sil
The first to ripen, and the largest.
Macizo Central
700-1,000 m · stone drying houses
Later, sweet, hardy chestnuts. Dried chestnuts (pilongas) come from here.
Valdeorras
Garrida · dry-farmed walnuts
The driest valley in Galicia. Thin-skinned chestnuts that peel easily.
